What's New in DocStar: October 2026

October was a big month for DocStar. The theme: docs that people and AI agents can both use. Here is everything that shipped.

#

MCP servers for every collection

Every documentation collection can now serve its own MCP server, so AI assistants can search your docs, browse your API reference and call your API.

  • Endpoint tools: give your key endpoints their own named tools.
  • An editable skill and editable tool descriptions, so you shape how assistants behave.
  • A read-only tool for GET requests, with explicit read-only hints.
  • Readable connect URLs based on your collection slug, plus custom domains for white-labeled servers.
  • A connectors area in the app to manage your connections in one place.
  • Key tool for APIs that use API keys.

Read the security guide for the Require sign-in when connecting switch and the new consent screen for connecting assistants.

#

The DocStar CLI, from 1.4 to 1.8

The DocStar CLI turns published API docs into runnable commands and MCP tools, organized as collection, module and endpoint. This month it gained:

  • init by collection slug, with support for custom domains and sub-paths.
  • Root endpoints for collections without modules.
  • Sign-in and API key management, plus key emit to write a key into your project's env file.
  • Smarter error handling, so a bad credential no longer triggers repeated prompts.
#

Collection slugs

Every collection now has an immutable slug, validated for uniqueness, with reserved names blocked. Slugs are what the CLI and MCP URLs build on, so they stay stable when you rename a site or change domains.

#

A redesigned API reference

The API reference has a new layout, an endpoint selected by default, richer descriptions and a Copy Prompt button that equips any AI assistant to use your docs. See The New DocStar API Reference.

#

Markdown and llms.txt

Every published page is now available as clean Markdown, and llms.txt was improved to give AI crawlers a better map of your collection. HTML content is converted to Markdown on publish.

#

A better editor

Documents now run on BlockNote, which brings:

  • HTML embed blocks for custom widgets and scripts.
  • A redesigned Link to Page card picker.
  • Lossless Markdown round-trips for custom blocks, so Markdown in and out keeps your content intact.
  • Paste fixes: cleaner handling of Google Docs colors, pasted images uploaded instead of embedded as raw data, single-H1 headings and tidier block spacing.
  • Alert blocks that survive Markdown export and import.

docstar.io, rebuilt

Our own website was rebuilt as an agent-first API docs site, with a quickstart for connecting DocStar's MCP server to your assistant and a Terms of Service page.

#

Also shipping

  • Improved onboarding and a refreshed login page.
  • UTM tracking for outbound links, with self-referral protection.
  • Page settings and entity ID management for easier page administration.
  • A feedback tool so assistants can report docs problems straight to the DocStar team.
