Writing Good AI Prompts

The AI landing page builder and the header and footer generator work best when you tell them exactly what you want. This guide shows what to include in a prompt and how to improve the result.

#

Start with the goal

Say what you are building.

Instead of Try
Create a website Create a documentation homepage for a developer platform
Make a blog page Create a blog landing page for product announcements

Common goals: documentation homepage, blog landing page, developer portal, knowledge base, help center.

#

Name your audience

Say who the page is for: developers, customers, students, enterprise buyers, designers or internal teams.

Create a documentation homepage for developers integrating our payments API.

#

Pick a style

Name a visual style, for example modern SaaS, minimal, corporate, editorial, glassmorphism, bento grid, dark or light.

#

List the sections

Tell the AI which sections to include and in what order:

  • Hero with a headline and call to action
  • Search bar
  • Feature or category cards
  • FAQ
  • Testimonials
  • Newsletter sign-up
  • Final call to action
#

Add brand details

If you have a brand, include it:

  • Primary and secondary colours (hex codes work best)
  • Logo position
  • Font style
  • Corner style (sharp or rounded)
  • Brand personality, such as friendly, technical or premium
#

Describe the layout

"Make it modern" is vague. Describe the layout instead: large hero, two-column layout, sidebar navigation, bento grid, editorial cards or masonry grid.

#

Describe images and motion

For illustrations, say what kind: developer illustration, product mockup, dashboard preview, abstract artwork, 3D or flat.

For motion, ask for things like subtle hover effects, fade-in on scroll, floating cards or an animated gradient.

#

A complete example

Create a documentation homepage for developers using our messaging API. Modern SaaS style, light theme, primary colour #2563EB. Sections: a large hero with a search bar and a "Get started" button, six category cards in a bento grid, a FAQ block and a final call to action. Use a flat developer illustration in the hero and subtle hover effects on the cards.

#

Refine instead of restarting

If the first result is close, keep the conversation going and ask for specific changes:

  • Reduce the spacing between sections.
  • Make the hero smaller.
  • Add a search bar to the hero.
  • Replace the cards with a two-column list.
  • Use a darker colour palette.
  • Increase the heading size.

Small, specific requests keep what already works.

#

Common mistakes

Avoid prompts that are too short, such as "Create homepage", "Make it modern" or "Nice design". The AI has to guess, and the result will be generic.

#

Prompt checklist

Before you generate, check that your prompt says:

  • What you are building
  • Who it is for
  • Which sections you need
  • The style you want
  • Your brand colours
  • The layout
  • Any images or animations

If most of these are covered, you will usually get a much better first result. See AI in the Editor for where to use these prompts.
