Header and Footer
Add your own header and footer to every page of your published docs. Use them for your logo, links back to your website, a sign-up button, contact details or legal links. You can write the HTML yourself or let AI create it.
#
Add a header or footer
- Open the collection and click Settings in the left sidebar.
- Open the Header And Footer tab.
- Click Header or Footer to choose which one to edit.
- Write or paste your HTML in the code editor. To start from a sample, click Load example header or Load example footer.
- Check the Preview panel. It shows your header at the top and your footer at the bottom.
- Click Save. The change is saved and published right away.

Create a header or footer with AI
Don't want to write HTML? Describe what you want and let AI build it.
- In the Header And Footer tab, select Header or Footer.
- Click Create header by AI (or Create footer by AI).
- Describe what you want, for example: "Dark header with our logo on the left and links to Pricing, Blog and Sign in on the right."
- Click Generate and review the Preview.
- Click Apply to Editor to copy the code into the editor.
- Adjust the code if needed, then click Save.
Not happy with the result? Change your description and generate again before you apply it.
#
Undo changes
If you edited the code but haven't saved, click Reset to published header (or footer) to go back to the live version.
#
Show or hide the header and footer
You can keep your header and footer code but hide them:
- Go to Settings > Theme & Customization.
- Under Visible Components, turn Header or Footer off.
- To control phones separately, use Mobile view header & footer.
- Click Save.
See Logo, Theme and Fonts for all visible components.
#
Tips
- Keep the header short. A tall header pushes your content down on every page.
- Use full links (
https://...) so they work on both the DocStar link and your custom domain. - Check your site on a phone after saving, and hide the header and footer on mobile if they take too much space.
- Add tracking scripts with Google Tag Manager instead of putting them in the header.
