Blogs

A Blogs collection turns your pages into a blog: each page is a post, and the published home page lists your posts as cards with cover images, categories and an RSS feed. Use it for product updates, engineering articles, tutorials or company news.

#

Create a blog

  1. Click the collection switcher at the top of the sidebar and choose Add collection.
  2. Enter a name and slug.
  3. Under Select Type, choose Blogs.
  4. Click Create Collection.

See Collections for details on names and slugs.

Write a post

  1. Next to Pages in the sidebar, click + (Add Page).
  2. Give the post a title and write it in the editor. See Editor Basics.
  3. Add a cover image and a category (see below).
  4. Publish the post. See Publish Pages.

Every post is a top-level page. Blog collections don't use subpages.

Add a cover image

The cover image appears at the top of the post and on its card on the blog home page.

  1. Open the post and hover above the title.
  2. Click Add cover image.
  3. Choose a source:
    • Upload: click Upload cover image, or paste an image URL and click Save. The recommended size is 1600 × 840 pixels.
    • Unsplash: search free stock photos.
    • AI: describe the image you want and press Enter.

Organize posts with categories

Categories group related posts, such as "Product Updates" or "Engineering". Readers can filter the blog by category.

Set up categories for the blog

  1. Open the collection and click Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Go to the Categories tab.
  3. Type a category name and click Add. Repeat for each category.
  4. Click Save Categories.

A blog can have up to 100 categories, each up to 100 characters long. The list also shows which posts use each category and whether they are live or in draft.

Assign a category to a post

  1. Open the post and hover above the title.
  2. Click Add category.
  3. In Set category, type a category or pick one from the suggestions, then save.

Each post has one category. A new category you type here is added to the blog's category list.

What readers see

The published blog home page shows:

  • a featured post at the top (your most-viewed post),
  • category filters, with All to show every post,
  • Latest Articles and More Articles, newest first, as cards with cover image, title, date and excerpt,
  • page numbers when you have many posts.

Each category also has its own URL, for example https://blog.example.com/category/engineering.

#

RSS feed

Every blog has an RSS feed with your latest published posts, so readers can subscribe in a feed reader. The RSS icon next to the category filters links to it.

Blog address Feed URL
Custom domain https://blog.example.com/feed.xml
DocStar domain /p/feed.xml?collectionId=<your collection ID>

Tips

  • Blogs don't have the Gallery View setting, because the blog home page already shows posts as cards.
  • Use a consistent cover image size so cards line up neatly.
  • Add SEO titles and descriptions to each post. See SEO.
  • To publish posts in more than one language, see Multiple Languages.
