Connect Your AI Assistant

Use this URL in any AI assistant that supports remote MCP servers:

https://mcp.docstar.io/mcp

If your assistant has a connector directory, search for DocStar there first. Otherwise add the URL yourself, as below. If your assistant doesn't support MCP at all, use an Auth Key instead: Run the DocStar API with an Auth Key.

#

Claude (claude.ai and the Claude apps)

  1. Open Settings and go to Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it DocStar and paste the MCP URL.
  4. Start a chat and ask Claude to list your DocStar organizations. Sign in when you're asked.
#

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http docstar https://mcp.docstar.io/mcp

Then start Claude Code and run /mcp to sign in to DocStar.

#

Cursor

Add DocStar to your MCP settings file (~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json in a project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "docstar": {
      "url": "https://mcp.docstar.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}
#

VS Code

Add DocStar to .vscode/mcp.json in your project:

{
  "servers": {
    "docstar": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.docstar.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}
#

Other assistants

ChatGPT, Codex and most other assistants have an option to add a remote or custom MCP server. Paste the same URL there.

#

Signing in

  • Reading DocStar's own help and API docs needs no sign-in.
  • The first time the assistant works with your workspace, it asks you to sign in to DocStar in your browser.
  • You never need to copy a token or API key. If an assistant asks you for one, don't share it.
#

Tip: give your assistant the quickstart

For the best results, start your first conversation with one of these.

To build an MCP server for your own app:

Use the DocStar MCP to turn my app's API into an MCP server. First read https://docstar.io/mcp/quickstart.md and follow it step by step.

To do your documentation work:

Use the DocStar MCP to do my work in DocStar. First read https://docstar.io/mcp/quickstart.md and follow it step by step.

See Build an MCP server for your app for what the assistant sets up.
