Edit via Link

Edit via link lets you share a page so that anyone with the link can edit it, without joining your workspace. Use it to collect quick fixes or input from a freelancer, a partner or a teammate who isn't in DocStar.

#

Before you start

  • The page must be published.
  • The option is available on top-level pages, not on subpages or API endpoints.
  • You need Read & Write access to the collection.
#
  1. Open the page.
  2. Click the settings (gear) icon in the page header. The Publish & Preview panel opens.
  3. Turn on Allow editing via link.
  4. Click the copy button next to the link that appears.
  5. Send the link to the person who should edit the page.

The link looks like https://<your DocStar address>/editpage/<collection id>/<page id>.

#

What the editor sees

The link opens the page in the DocStar editor with the page name and collection name at the top. The editor:

  • Doesn't need a DocStar account or to sign in.
  • Can edit only this page. They can't see the rest of your workspace or collection.
  • Edits live, so you and your team see their changes as they type.

Changes made through the link go into the page's draft, like any other edit. Review them, then publish the page again to make them live. See Publish Pages.

#
  1. Open the page and click the settings (gear) icon.
  2. Turn off Allow editing via link.

The link stops working right away. Anyone who opens it sees that editing via link is disabled for this page. If you turn the option back on, the same link works again.

Tips and limits

  • Treat the link like a password. Anyone who has it can change the page while the option is on. Turn it off when the work is done.
  • The link always points to the same page, so you can't create a separate link per person.
  • To undo unwanted changes, use Version History.
  • For people who need ongoing access to many pages, invite them as members instead. See Members and Roles.
