Workspaces

A workspace is your team's space in DocStar. Each workspace has its own members, roles and collections, and nothing is shared between workspaces. Create separate workspaces when you need to keep companies, clients or very separate teams apart.

#

Your first workspace

The first time you sign in without a workspace, DocStar asks you to create one. You become its Owner. DocStar also adds a starter collection with a first page, so you can start writing right away.

#

Create a workspace

  1. Click your workspace name at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  2. Click Add Workspace.
  3. Enter a Workspace Name. Use 3 to 50 characters: letters, numbers, spaces and underscores.
  4. Optional: turn on Domain-based access (see below).
  5. Click Continue.

DocStar creates the workspace and opens it. You choose the type of each collection (Doc, API, Blogs or Embed) later, when you create the collection. See Choose Your Docs Type.

Let teammates join by email domain

If you sign in with a company email address (not a public one such as Gmail or Outlook), you can let anyone with the same email domain join your workspace automatically as a member.

  • When you create a workspace: select Enable for @yourdomain under Domain-based access.
  • Later: open Members from the workspace menu and use the Domain-based access box at the bottom of the page. The Active domains list shows which domains are on. Owners and Admins can change this.
#

Switch between workspaces

  1. Click your workspace name at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  2. Click Switch Workspace.
  3. Click the workspace you want. Use Search workspace if you belong to many.

Your current workspace is marked Current.

#

Leave a workspace

You can only leave a workspace you are not currently in.

  1. Open Switch Workspace.
  2. Hover over the workspace you want to leave and click Leave.
  3. Click Leave again to confirm.

You lose access to that workspace's collections. A workspace Owner or Admin has to add you again if you want to come back.

#

SSO workspaces

Some workspaces are created for you through single sign-on from another product. They show an SSO tag in the workspace list. SSO workspaces work a little differently:

  • They have one collection. You can't add, import or delete collections.
  • The Members page is not available, and you can't leave the workspace from DocStar.
  • Admins have full access. Other users can read content but not edit it.

Manage members

To invite people and control what they can see and edit, click Members in the workspace menu. See Members and Roles.
