Version History
DocStar keeps two separate histories for every page: the versions you saved while editing, and the versions you published. Both let you preview an older copy and restore it, so you never lose work.
Two kinds of history
| Version History | Published History | |
|---|---|---|
| What it records | Your draft, each time an editing session ends | Each version you published |
| Includes unpublished changes | Yes | No |
| Shows | When it was saved and who made the changes | When it was published and who published it |
| Use it to | Undo edits, recover deleted text, compare drafts | Roll back to what readers saw before |
Both are available on pages and subpages. You need write access to the collection to open them.
Version History: every saved edit
DocStar saves your changes as you type. Each time you or a teammate finish an editing session (for example, by leaving the page), DocStar stores a version of the page, even if the page was never published.
View and restore a saved version
- Open the page and click the settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner.
- Under History, click Version History ("View all saved versions").
- In Revision History, pick a version from the list on the right. Each entry shows when it was saved and who made the changes.
- Preview the content on the left.
- Click Restore, then Confirm.
The page content is replaced with the version you chose. Everyone editing the page sees the change.
Published History: every published version
Each time you publish a page, DocStar records a copy of what went live, with the person who published it and the time. Older published versions stay available after you publish again.
View and restore a published version
- Open the page and click the settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner.
- Under History, click Published History ("View published revisions").
- Pick a version from the list. Each entry shows when it was published and Published by with the person's name.
- Preview the content.
- Click Restore, then Confirm.
The published version is loaded into the editor as your current draft.
What about named page versions?
Earlier releases of DocStar let you create named versions of a top-level page (such as "v1" and "v2") from a Manage Versions menu. That option is no longer part of the editor. To keep content for different product versions side by side, use separate pages or separate collections, and use the histories above to track changes over time.
Tips
- Restoring replaces the whole page. If you made edits in your current session that you want to keep, copy them somewhere first.
- To bring back a whole page you archived, rather than an earlier copy of its content, see Archive, Trash and Restore.
- To see who changed what across the whole collection, open Logs in the sidebar.
